Dear parent or carer
As part of our commitment to providing students with outstanding careers education, information, advice and guidance, I would like to update you on the activities that are taking place across school this term.
All of our year 11 students have engaged / will very soon engage in at least one guidance interview with our Connexions advisor. As part of our Life Chances curriculum, students have engaged in sessions focused on CV creation and interview preparation. We are also welcoming a different post-16 provider each week to speak to all Year 11 students about their post-16 offer.
To further support preparation for their post-16 applications and beyond, we have organised a mock interview day to provide every year 11 student with the experience of a formal-style interview. I am delighted that several of our industry partners and post-16 providers have offered their time to support our students in this way. The mock interview day will take place on Friday 9th October and students will be advised of their interview time in advance. Interviews will take place in our conference room and will be supervised, at all times, by Little Lever staff. Students will receive feedback on their CV from their interviewer and students have been asked to submit a printed copy of their CV to their prep tutor by Wednesday 7th October. A template has been shared with students and printing facilities are available in school.
To provide a more realistic feel to the day, students have been invited to wear professional interview dress. I would like to emphasise that this does not mean they need a new suit or clothing. In previous years, many students have adapted their school uniform for this purpose, for example, wearing a different tie, shirt or blouse. Sportswear, trainers and high heeled shoes are not permitted. Students may, of course, wear their school uniform as normal.
I am also enclosing an overview of the various college / provider open evenings that are taking place over the next few weeks and months. This also includes information regarding application deadlines - please check with the provider’s website to ensure that details remain accurate.
If you have any questions about our careers education, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours faithfully
Ms N Devaney
Year 11 Learning Leader
