From 1 June 2026, Little Lever School will introduce an important change to its medication policy.
The school will no longer be able to administer or provide non-prescribed, over-the-counter medicines — including paracetamol, ibuprofen and similar remedies — to pupils during the school day.
This decision has been made following careful consideration of health and safety, safeguarding responsibilities, and current education and healthcare guidance. The change also reflects the challenges schools face in verifying medical history, allergies, and appropriate consent for non-prescribed medication.
The school will continue to support pupils who require prescribed medication during the school day. Parents and carers must ensure medication is supplied in its original packaging with a prescription label, clear dosage instructions, and a completed medication consent form.
Emergency medication, including inhalers and epipens, will continue to be stored and administered in line with the school’s existing medical needs policy.
Parents and carers are asked to ensure any non-prescribed medication is taken at home before pupils attend school and to keep emergency contact and medical information up to date.
If you have any questions about the policy change, please contact the school using the Contact Us form on the website.
All parents/carers will have recieved a letter via email, explaining this procedure change in full. However, please see below to open a copy of the letter.
