National Literacy Day takes over Little Lever

photo

Various events took place in school over the course of the week to recognise and promote National Literacy Day on 8th September 2016. Activities such as DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time took place across school, a year 7 literacy quiz, where the new pupils searched the school for twenty five hidden words and then looked up their meanings and also a Roald Dahl day, in memory of the great writer who contributed so much to the English language.

DEAR 1

Students learnt new vocabulary, facts about one of our great writers and also reading for pleasure. Oh and our new Year 7 learned how to find their way around the school in searching for literary quotes posted around the building!

Mrs Westwood, Literact Lead stated, "Literacy is the most important gift we can give our children.  It is a passport to whole new worlds; both real and imaginary."

Students enjoyed the week, reporting,

“I loved doing the quiz and finding out the meanings of new words”

“It was fantastic to be given the chance to read with my pupils in the science lab”
