(Achieve Together, Learn and Succeed)

ATLAS is a school-within-a-school provision for year 7 students who arrive at Little Lever school with low levels in literacy.  The ATLAS curriculum is timetabled when the other Year 7 students have lessons in English and the humanities.  The group are assessed early in the autumn term for reading and spelling ages and standardised scores are used to plan appropriate pathways to improve their literacy skills.

The group have a phonics session daily and use a variety of reading programmes differentiated to their ability level.  They have sessions using  software packages such as ‘IDL’ and ‘Lexia’ which enables them to practise their reading, spelling and typing skills.

The group complete assessments in line with the English and humanities assessment cycle throughout the year.  They are regularly retested for reading and spelling in order to track progress.  Students in this group also usually attend the school Nurture provision in order to work on social and emotional skills.

If students make accelerated progress throughout the year, they are moved back into the mainstream classes by a phased transition process.
