Literacy Provision 2015-2016

All pupils in years 7 – 9 have one literacy lesson a week to develop the skills needed to succeed in all areas of the school curriculum.

A small cohort of pupils that are identified below the expected level in literacy are disapplied from studying a language in year 7 only, and instead, follow an intensive literacy curriculum for three lessons a week. In these sessions the students spend time

  • developing their independent literacy skills with a focus on reading
  • using the Vocabulary Enrichment Intervention Programme
  • using the library
  • participating in literacy games

Literacy is also developed through the ATLAS group (see key information on the website).
