About the Department

Our curriculum aims to develop students’ historical knowledge, their skills and their understanding of the concepts used in history. We contribute to the developments of students’ literacy skills as this is one of the keys to success in our subject.

We investigate the past through a variety of different topics, such as conflict, danger and past lives; as well as through different time periods, including the medieval period, the Tudors and Stuarts and the twentieth century world.

History is studied in two 50 minute periods a week in Key Stage 3 and three 50 minutes at GCSE.

Essential Mix is the key knowledge and skills that a Year 7 or 8 student must have mastered to progress to the following year.
