Mental Health & Wellbeing

The mental health and wellbeing of our students is imperative.

As a school, we promote positive mental health and wellbeing by:

  • Developing an ethos and environment which supports learning and promotes the health and wellbeing of all, whether it be; socially, emotionally, mentally or physically
  • Promoting resilience in students
  • Ensuring pupils feel safe and supported
  • Developing a sense of belonging, encouraging participation of all
  • Developing pupil relationships - trust to talk openly with adults about their problems

Physical Activity

There is a positive association which exists between academic attainment and physical activity levels of pupils.

Ofsted has highlighted that schools are vital in developing pupil’s health and wellbeing by promoting and supporting healthier eating, physical activity and to shape healthy habits among young people.

Physical activity is offered in school as part of PE and extracurricular, however being physically active does not simply mean being part of the school team, but being active; walking to school, going for a bike ride, going for a swim, dancing to music or jumping on the trampoline in your garden.

All will improve physical health and in turn mental health resulting in better outcomes academically.

Health – is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity

Wellbeing - the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.

Quality of Life - an individual’s perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards and concerns. It is a broad ranging concept affected in a complex way by the person’s physical health, psychological state, personal beliefs, social relationships and their relationship to salient features of their environment (World Health Organisation)
